# Managing Your Contacts

> A simple guide to saving the people you call as contacts, calling them with one tap, and choosing who else on your team can see each contact.

**TL;DR:** Save a number once with Save contact, then call it with one tap. Contacts you create in CallTuv sync everywhere and can be shared with your team; your phone's own contacts stay private on your device and are never uploaded.

International phone numbers are long, and typing them again and again invites mistakes. Contacts solve that: save a person once, and from then on calling them is a single tap on their name. Your CallTuv contacts also have one special ability - each one can be kept private to you, or shared with your whole team.

## Saving a contact

There are two easy ways:

**Right from the dialer.** After you've typed a number - or even during or right after a call - press **Save contact**, give the person a name, and confirm. The number is stored exactly as dialed, so it will always connect correctly.

**From the Contacts page.** Open **Contacts** (in the website menu, or the **Contacts** tab in the app), choose to add a new contact, and type the name and phone number. Remember to include the country - the safest is international format, starting with + and the country code, like `+44 20 7946 0000`.

## Using your phone's own contacts (mobile app)

On the mobile app, you can also see the contacts already saved on your phone - so you don't have to retype anyone. The first time, the app shows a small **Show contacts** card asking for permission:

1. On the **Contacts** tab, find the **Show contacts** card and tap **Open**.
2. Your phone shows its standard permission question - allow **contact access** for CallTuv.
3. Your phone's contacts now appear in the list, ready to call with a tap.

A privacy promise worth spelling out: **your phone's contacts stay local on your device and are never uploaded** - CallTuv has no access to them on our side. They're simply read on the device so you can dial them easily. That also means they appear only on that phone: **only contacts you create inside CallTuv** (in the app or the web dialer) sync across your devices and can be shared with your team.

Prefer not to grant access? That's completely fine - dismiss the card and everything else works normally. If you change your mind after denying, the card's button takes you to your phone's **Settings** to switch the permission on.

## Calling someone you've saved

1. Open **Contacts**.
2. Find the person - either scroll, or type part of their name (or number) into the search box at the top.
3. Tap the **call button** next to their name. The dialer opens with their number already filled in - just press call.

You can also reach your contacts directly from inside the dialer's search, without visiting the Contacts page first.

## Private or shared with your team - your choice

Every contact has a visibility setting, and it's entirely up to you:

- **Private** - only you can see this contact. This is how new contacts start.
- **Shared** - everyone in your [team](/help/6027384-how-teams-and-shared-balance-work) can see it and call it.

To change it, open the contact and tap the visibility note - it reads "Currently private to you. Click to share with your team," and once shared, the reverse. You can flip it back and forth any time.

When is sharing useful? A family team might share Grandma's number so everyone has it; a small business might share its customer list so any colleague can return a call. Personal numbers you'd rather keep to yourself - just leave them private.

## Changing or removing a contact

Open the contact to **rename** it, **correct the number**, or **delete** it entirely. Deleting a contact is safe - it doesn't touch your [call history](/help/7482016-your-call-history); past calls keep showing the number they were made to.

## Two comforting details

- Contacts you **create in CallTuv** live in your account, not on one device - save someone on your phone and they're on your computer too, automatically.
