# Which Countries You Can Call

> CallTuv reaches landlines and mobiles in over 230 countries and territories. Here is how to check any destination in seconds, and the few places calls cannot be made to.

**TL;DR:** You can call landlines and mobiles in over 230 countries and territories. The country list in the dialer is the definitive list - if a country is in it, you can call it. Mainland China, Iran, Cuba and Syria are not available. Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan are.

CallTuv reaches landlines and mobile numbers in **over 230 countries and territories** - practically everywhere in the world. There is no separate plan or add-on for any of them: the same balance calls all of them, and you pay that destination's [per-minute rate](/help/6198430-understanding-rates-and-per-minute-billing) for the minutes you actually use.

## The quickest way to check a country

The country list in the dialer is the definitive answer, and it takes about ten seconds to check:

1. Open the dialer - the **Call** screen on the web or in the app.
2. Tap or click the **country selector** beside the number box (it shows a flag and a dialing code).
3. Start typing the country's name.

If the country appears in the list, you can call it. If it doesn't appear, it isn't available. You can also browse every destination, with its price, on the [rates page](https://calltuv.com/en/rates).

## The countries you can't call

There are a small number of places CallTuv cannot connect calls to. The well-known ones are:

- **Mainland China** (+86)
- **Iran** (+98)
- **Cuba** (+53)
- **Syria** (+963)

Worth knowing if China was what you were after: **Hong Kong**, **Macau** and **Taiwan** are all available and can be called normally.

This isn't a decision we make account by account, and it isn't something support can switch on for you. Carrying calls onto the world's phone networks means following the sanctions rules and telecom regulations that apply to each destination, and a handful of countries fall outside what we're permitted or able to reach. Our [Terms of Service](https://calltuv.com/terms) put it the same way: certain regions may be restricted due to sanctions or telecom laws.

If you type a number for one of these destinations, CallTuv tells you before anything happens:

> Country not supported. Calls to this region are currently unavailable.

Nothing is charged when you see that message, because the call never starts. Do check the number and the country code first, though - a stray digit in the country code can point a perfectly ordinary number at a country you never intended, and that produces the very same message. ## Two other kinds of number that won't go through

Separate from countries, two sorts of number are unavailable everywhere:

- **Emergency numbers** - 911, 112, 999 and their equivalents. CallTuv cannot reach them and they must never be relied on in an emergency. This matters enough to have its own article: [Emergency Calls Are Not Supported](/help/7203865-emergency-calls-are-not-supported).
- **Premium, special-rate and shared-cost numbers** - the expensive prefixes used by chat lines, competitions and some paid helplines. These aren't carried on our network. ## Where you call *from* is a different question

Everything above is about the country you are calling **to**. The country you are sitting in doesn't restrict anything and doesn't change the price - CallTuv works over the internet, so a call to Germany costs the same whether you dial it from Tel Aviv, London or Tokyo.
