How to test your microphone in Google Meet
Google Meet is heavily tied to browser permissions and your active browser audio device. A quick browser test plus a Meet settings check usually identifies the issue.
- Run the browser mic test first. Confirm that your microphone works outside of Meet before you blame the meeting itself.
- Open Google Meet and inspect the pre-join preview. If the microphone icon is muted or blocked, fix that before entering the meeting.
- Open Settings and review the Audio tab. Make sure Meet is pointed at the exact microphone you just tested in the browser.
- Join a solo or low-stakes meeting early if needed. When the browser test passes but Meet still fails, a short solo check helps confirm whether Chrome permissions or account setup are involved.
