How to test your microphone in Zoom
Zoom keeps its own audio device selection separate from your system defaults, so a working microphone can still be silent in a meeting. A quick browser test plus a Zoom settings check usually identifies the issue.
- Run the browser mic test first. Confirm that your microphone works outside of Zoom before you blame the meeting itself.
- Open Zoom Settings and select the Audio tab. Use Test Speaker & Microphone and make sure Zoom is pointed at the exact device you just tested.
- Check the pre-join audio prompt. Always click Join with Computer Audio, and enable the option to join with computer audio automatically if you trust your setup.
- Watch the input level meter while speaking. Zoom shows a live input level in Settings > Audio. If it does not move there but moves here, the wrong device is selected in Zoom.
